DESCRIPTION:
A security issue and a vulnerability have been reported in Puppet,
which can be exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated
privileges.
1) A security issue due to the application not properly dropping
group permissions when a process is forked may result in exec
resources to inherit parent's GID (e.g. root).
2) An error in k5login type when managing a user's login file can be
exploited to gain another user's permissions by symlinking the
".k5login" file to the target user's file.
The security issue and the vulnerability are reported in the
following versions:
* Puppet versions prior to 2.6.14 and prior to 2.7.11.
* Puppet Enterprise versions prior to 2.0.3.
* Puppet Enterprise versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2.x.
SOLUTION:
Update to a fixed version or apply hotfixes.
