DESCRIPTION:
Tavis Ormandy has reported a vulnerability in Snort, which can be
exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the
"rule20275eval()" function (netbios_kb961501-smb-printss-reponse.c)
when parsing DCE/RPC responses and can be exploited to cause a
stack-based buffer overflow.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code but
requires that rule "3-20275" is enabled.
The vulnerability is reported in versions 2.9.4.0, 2.9.3.1, and
2.9.2.3. Other versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Update Snort rules to a version released on 2013-01-17 or later.
