DESCRIPTION:
Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in the CA License
software, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a
vulnerable system.
1) A boundary error within the log message generation can be
exploited to cause buffer overflows by supplying a packet with an
overly long (more than 2100 bytes), invalid command.
2) A boundary error within the handling of filenames in PUTOLF
requests can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow by passing an
overly long filename (more than 252 bytes).
3) An input validation error within the handling of filenames in
PUTOLF requests can be exploited to create files in arbitrary
directories via directory traversal attacks.
4) A boundary error within the handling of GETCONFIG requests can be
exploited to cause a buffer overflow via a specially crafted
GETCONFIG request.
5) A boundary error within the handling of GCR requests can be
exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially
crafted GCR packet containing overly large values in the IP address,
hostname, and netmask fields.
6) A boundary error within the handling of GCR requests can be
exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially
crafted GCR packet containing overly long strings in some fields of
the Checksums item.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities allows execution of
arbitrary code with SYSTEM or root privileges.
The vulnerabilities have been reported in CA License software
versions 1.53 through 1.61.8.
NOTE: The license package is reportedly included with the majority of
CA products. However, it is not clear which products don't include
this package, as a list hasn't been published by the vendor.
SOLUTION:
Update to version 1.61.9 or later.

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
1-3) Greg MacManus, iDEFENSE Labs.
4-6) Discovered by anonymous person and reported via iDEFENSE.
The vendor also credits eEye Digital Security.
