DESCRIPTION:
Jelmer Kuperus has discovered a vulnerability in WinSCP, which can be
exploited by malicious people to manipulate certain files on a user's
system and potentially to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to an error within the handling of
the "scp://" and "sftp://" protocol handlers. This can be exploited
to insert additional command line switches, potentially to cause
WinSCP to append log entries to arbitrary files on the user's system,
or to download files onto the user's system via a specially crafted
URL.
Successful exploitation requires that the user is e.g. tricked into
following a malicious link.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 3.8.1 build 328.
Other versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Do not follow links from untrusted websites.
