DESCRIPTION:
Thomas Wolff has discovered a security issue in xbiff2, which can be
exploited by malicious, local users to disclose sensitive
information.
The security issue is caused due to an error in the configuration
routine in xbiff2, which creates $HOME/.xbiff2rc with file
permissions set to 755. This can e.g. be exploited to disclose the
user's POP or IMAP credentials.
The security issue has been confirmed in version 1.9 for Linux. Other
versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Create .xbiff2rc with file permissions set to 600 before using
xbiff2.
