CRITICAL:
Moderately critical
IMPACT:

WHERE:

SOFTWARE:
activePDF Server 3.8.x
http://secunia.com/product/16284/
DESCRIPTION:
Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in activePDF Server,
which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable
system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the activePDF
Server service (APServer.exe) when receiving client data. This can be
exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow by connecting to the
service (port 53535/TCP by default) and sending a packet specifying a
smaller size than the actual size of the following data.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.
The vulnerability is confirmed in versions 3.8.4 and 3.8.5.14. Other
versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Update to version 3.8.6.16 or later.
