DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in HPLIP, which can be exploited by
malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the
"hpmud_get_pml()" function (io/hpmud/pml.c) when using certain tools
to discover devices using SNMP. This can be exploited to cause a
stack-based buffer overflow by returning a specially crafted SNMP
response.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.
The vulnerability is reported in version 3.10.9. Other versions may
also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Do not use SNMP-based command line tools.
PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
Sebastian Krahmer, SuSE Security Team.
