Overview

A vulnerability in the Data-Loss-Prevention (DLP) module in Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV) Software versions 0.102.1 and 0.102.0 could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service condition on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to an out-of-bounds read affecting users that have enabled the optional DLP feature. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted email file to an affected device. An exploit could allow the attacker to cause the ClamAV scanning process crash, resulting in a denial of service condition.

Ubuntu Security Notice 4280-2 - USN-4280-1 fixed a vulnerability in ClamAV. This update provides the corresponding update for Ubuntu 12.04 ESM and Ubuntu 14.04 ESM. It was discovered that ClamAV incorrectly handled memory when the Data-Loss-Prevention feature was enabled. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause ClamAV to crash, resulting in a denial of service. Various other issues were also addressed.

Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command-line scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.

Changes: A denial of service vulnerability has been addressed. Significantly improved scan speed of PDF files on Windows. Various other updates and improvements.
